Dump your bad habits. Quit smoking, cursing, arguing -- move past whatever it is that leads you to this point in the first place, then go a step farther. If you want to impress other people, it is the extra steps you take that will surprise them. Do not become a bragger, though -- be proud of yourself and people will notice the change. - 2
Noticing what others are into might lead to good conversation, or even a new hobby.Jupiterimages/Creatas/Getty Images
Pick up good habits: hold open doors, praise others ("nice shoes"), call your mom, smile at babies, recycle. Taking time to notice other people and things will make the world notice you. Pick up new hobbies like guitar or reading the newspaper every day. Taking time to enrich your mind will make you a better conversationalist, and lead to engaging social interaction. Ask questions. Be interested. Be an interesting person. - 3
Don't let it be your only change -- make it represent a new attitude.Brand X Pictures/Brand X Pictures/Getty Images
Make a physical change. Cut your super-long hair, look through your clothes, lose the earring (or get one) -- it might be what you're comfortable in, but does it make you feel good? Looks are an unavoidable first impression, and if you become confident about presenting the world your very best self, people will absorb that positive energy. They will feel good about you, and you will feel good about that. - 4

Get new friends. If you've developed bad habits, odds are you are surrounding yourself with others who have them. Don't simply dump all your friends and family -- find out who's important. Who do you respect? It could be that you are overlooking somebody who can help you on your quest. Keep in mind that many people do not "find themselves" until they move to a new place with new people.
