- The challenge from Series 10 saw the hosts attempting to cross the English Channel from England to France in cars that they converted into boats. The cars were a Toyota Hilux made into a motorboat with an outboard engine strapped to the back, a Triumph Herald converted into a dinghy with mast and sail, and a Volkswagen Camper van converted into a barge. The eventual outcome after a few attempts saw the Hilux finally get across the 21-mile stretch, with the others sinking on the English side of the channel.
- The challenge shown at the end of 2008 saw the hosts attempting to acquire a car in Saigon for 15 million Vietnamese dong (around $1,000 U.S.) and drive it to Hanoi. After finding it impossible to find a car for this price, the hosts buy motorbikes for the journey. On the way through the country, the boys buy gifts for each other to make them look foolish, acquire cheap suits and live in dreaded fear of having to ride the musical "Born in the USA" motorbike if their own motorbike fails. After finding themselves in the wrong place, they use a train to transport their motorbikes, before converting the bikes into watercraft to navigate through 1,969 limestone islets in Ha Long Bay to a bar at the finish.
- This challenge saw Richard Hammond and James May attempting to launch a three-wheeled Reliant Robin car into the stratosphere with the help of the British Amateur Rocket Society. The challenge used eight tons of thrust and was the largest non-commercial rocket launch ever in Europe.
- The Polar Challenge was an attempt by the "Top Gear" crew to drive a modified Toyota Hilux truck to the 1996 location of the magnetic North Pole. The idea was that Jeremy Clarkson and James May in the Toyota would race Richard Hammond traveling by dog sled. The starting point was Resolute, Canada, and the route was planned by satellite navigation. The race was eventually won by the Toyota Hilux, with the dog sled never reaching the pole.
