How to Set the Table for a Baby Shower

    • 1). Lay out a tablecloth, if you'll be using one. This step may not be necessary if you're going for a casual or rustic setting, or you have very ornate dinnerware you'd like to contrast against a simple dinner table. Otherwise, choose a neutral color for bold and bright dinnerware and setting pieces, or a bold color to contrast with white or neutral dinnerware and settings.

    • 2). Create a centerpiece for your baby shower table. Incorporate eggs or egg-shaped candies into the centerpiece, placing faux robin and bird eggs in a large, clear bowl or filling several mason jars with egg-shaped candied chocolates.

    • 3). Create a floral centerpiece for an elegant shower. Use pink, blue or yellow blossoms, or go with a more contemporary color combination like orange and grass green. Tightly bunch many flowers together for a large centerpiece, or create a centerpiece by grouping single-stemmed buds floating in a shallow cup.

    • 4). Place a party favor at each setting. Choose something that represents new life or is baby themed. Good examples are small potted succulent plants or baby-themed brooches boxed and wrapped with matching paper and ribbons.

    • 5). Place a gift basket (in lieu of a centerpiece) in the middle of the table or on a side buffet table. The basket may contain rattles, cloth or disposable diapers, grooming kits, receiving blankets and other baby essentials.

    • 6). Place votive candles around the centerpiece or near each setting for ambient lighting. For additional lighting, hang white Christmas lights overhead, or wrap them around a bundle of branches hung overhead like a chandelier. Spray paint the branches white for a soft touch.

    • 7). Place a plate charger, dinner plate, salad plate and coffee saucer/cup at each setting. How much dinnerware you set out depends on how formal you'd like the setting to be. Place drinkware in front of each setting on the right hand side. Place silverware on either side of the dinner plate according to your preference.

    • 8). Make personalized place setting cards and lay them atop each plate, or set them in front of the setting. You can also attach tags to baby shower favors (like the potted succulents) to double as place setting cards.
