Supercharger Kits

They not only help in increasing the horsepower but also the efficiency of the combustion process.
The supercharger kits that are available in the market are not very expensive which is why they have become extremely popular.
Automobile manufacturers have been installing supercharger kits in their performance models as well.
These modifications are able to drastically improve the engine's performance and are considered to be one of the best performance upgrades available in the market today.
Function All superchargers work on the same basic principle where they increase the amount of air entering the motor from the intake manifold.
In a typical supercharging process, the crankshaft has to turn the belt which drives the supercharger.
By increasing the volume of air entering the motor, superchargers allow the RPM to increase and produce more horsepower.
A major benefit of installing supercharger kits is that there is no lag suffered during the process like the one created by exhaust-driven turbo systems.
However, there is one drawback which needs to be considered here as well.
Supercharges can have a negative impact on the motor's power in the long run.
This is because in this system, the crankshaft is responsible for driving the belt.
Types There are three basic types of supercharger kits available in the market, which are being commonly used.
There could be a slight difference in the way each type works and performs but the basic purpose remains the same.
Each type of supercharger also has its own set of advantages and disadvantages which have to be considered too.
They have been designed for improving a vehicle's performance but they all serve well for different applications.
Roots These are said to be the most popular type of superchargers available in the market these days and are widely used by American automobiles in particular.
This is a belt-driven system which makes use of inter-meshing lobes.
The spinning motion of these lobes helps in forcing the air into the motor and therefore, in increasing horsepower.
Centrifugal Although these superchargers are quite popular in the European market, they are not very common in some other markets.
This is because centrifugal superchargers are not as powerful as the other types available in the market.
These are also belt-driven systems but make use of a wheel inside the compressor instead of the lobes.
These supercharger kits have a function similar to that of a turbo where the air is forced into the motor when the wheel spins.
They are relatively easier to install in the engine as they make use of fewer components.
Lysholm Screw In terms of their design and looks, these superchargers are quite similar to the Roots superchargers.
Instead of inter-meshing lobes however, these systems make use of inter-meshing screws.
The air is forced into the motor in order to produce more horsepower and boosting performance.
