My mom and I moved into an apartment after my dad left and the house foreclosed. About a month later, I kept seeing a dark shadow out of the corner of my eye that was human in shape, but every time I would turn my head... it would be gone.

This went on for about two months... until one night I was in bed lying on my stomach, because that's how I sleep, but I was not asleep yet. I had a creepy feeling and was trying to count backward from 100, which is my normal practice.

Out of nowhere, I did not see the black shadow at first, but I felt something lay on top of me. It felt like human weight, and when I turned my head, eyes bugged out of my head, I'm sure. I could see it! No face, no eyes, just a black figure, I tried to get up, but couldn't move, I just felt the pressure locking me into my mattress.

I screamed for my mom, and she came running in -- and it was gone the moment the scream left my mouth. I told her what had happened, and she admitted to seeing the same thing out of the corner of her eye, but it would just pass her bedroom. She never said anything for the same reason I didn't: Who would believe such a thing? Ghosts are white, or you can see clothing, smell things... this was just a black shadow that neither one of us had ever laid eyes on.

It continued on until my boyfriend (now husband) moved in. It just disappeared. It never made another attempt to touch me or lay on me, or did anything to my mom, but it was the most frightening experience of my life.

 This was in an apartment building in Southern New Jersey.
