How to Install Memory in a Toshiba S2693

    Power Down

    • 1). Shut down your Toshiba M45-S2693 laptop using the "Start" button and clicking "Turn Off." Never open a computer casing while it is powered on.

    • 2). Unplug the power cord and all other cables after the computer completely shuts down, then close the laptop.

    • 3). Flip the laptop upside down with the front facing you.

    • 4). Remove the battery by sliding the release latch and pulling it out.

    • 5). Locate the memory slot cover in the center of the computer.

    • 6). Discharge any static electricity. Static electricity can damage your RAM module and the inside of your computer. To discharge any buildup, touch a metal surface away from the computer.

    Install Memory

    • 1). Remove the screw securing the slot cover with a Phillips No. 1 screwdriver and take off the cover.

    • 2). Insert the new RAM module squarely into an empty slot by holding the module by its edges at an angle. The gold bar should be facing the empty slot. Take caution not to touch the gold connectors on the RAM to avoid causing damage.

    • 3). Press the module down gently until it snaps securely into the slot. Do not force the module into the slot or you could damage the slot or the module.

    Replace the Cover

    • 1). Screw the memory slot cover back into place.

    • 2). Reconnect the battery and flip the computer back to right side up.

    • 3). Connect all cables.

    • 4). Insert the battery and power up the computer.

    • 5). Go to the "Start" menu and choose the "Control Panel." Click "Performance and Maintenance" and then "System." Check to see that the computer recognizes the newly installed RAM module.
