- 1). Ask your children to explain what is bothering them. If you already know, ask them to elaborate. Be a good listener as your children share their stories. In some cases, all they want is someone to confide in.
- 2). Encourage your children with positive words. Remind them that bad days happen to everyone, but days like this are fleeting.
- 3). Play a card game with your children. If they don’t know any card games, now is the time to teach them one. Card games will leave them amused and won’t require much cleaning up on your part -- unless you play “52 Card Pickup.”
- 4). Go for a walk around the neighborhood or through a nearby park. The fresh air will invigorate your children, and the open space will give them room to play.
- 5). Allow your children to decide the dinner plan. If you already have meal preparations in place, allow your children to choose a dessert. They may enjoy the chance to voice their opinions.
- 6). Permit your children to create a fort from couch cushions and blankets. This activity will allow your children to use their imagination and then find rest in an unusual but cozy location.
