How to Kill Fleas With Borax & Rock Salt

    • 1). Cut your flea collar into several pieces. Place the flea collar in your vacuum bag or bag-less canister. This will help kill the fleas you collect as you vacuum your house.

    • 2). Vacuum your floors thoroughly. Vacuum every room in your house, because fleas can quickly travel to different rooms and upstairs. Vacuum your furniture and drapes as well. Dispose of the bag or rinse your canister thoroughly with water and a 1/2 cup of bleach.

    • 3). Mix four parts borax with one part table salt. Sprinkle the mixture over your carpet and upholstery. Use your broom to spread the mixture evenly across the floor and furniture and to work it deeper into the fibers. Leave the solution on for 30 minutes to five hours, depending on the level of infestation. The mixture penetrates the fleas' exoskeletons and the eggs' shells and draws out the moisture inside, killing the fleas.

    • 4). Vacuum the floors and furniture again to remove the borax and table salt. Dispose of the bag or rinse your canister thoroughly with water and a 1/2 cup of bleach.

    • 5). Mix 2 ounces of lavender oil with about 3 quarts of rock salt. Place the mixture in a shallow bowl or tray. Place it under furniture and out of reach of children or pets. The mixture will help repel fleas.
