Have you ever noticed that you see some of the same people who volunteer at schools, churches, and at community organizations? Sure you'll see some other people there but there are always those individuals that make it part of their life.
Why? It's simple.
They get something out of it.
As much as you might think they are doing it for the sake of others, in reality they are also getting something out of it.
The service they choose reaches deep down and satisfies a hunger or drive that needs to be fulfilled.
It could be that they feel the service they are providing is serving a higher purpose, that in their own small way they are making a difference by contributing, or that they only feel whole or complete if they are in service to others.
In essence the service that they provide feeds their hunger which in essence feeds their spirit.
It's like quenching a thirst that couldn't be satisfied in any other way.
Being in service is a driving force and is just one of the passions that everyone has.
However, even though everyone has a sense of service within them, each of us has it in varying degrees.
If we all had the same amount of service within use, when a message went out that volunteers are needed to clean up the highways, to serve meals to the poor, or help out at school we'd all jump at the chance to serve.
Any yet only a small percentage will be compelled to show up while the rest of us go about our business knowing others will step up to the plate to help out.
