- 1). Take the door panels off of the cabinets if you are replacing a set of existing cabinet hinges. Remove the screws that hold the hinges onto the edge of the cabinet, using a screwdriver, while your assistant supports the weight of the door.
- 2). Turn the door panels upside-down and place them on a table or workbench. Remove any existing screws or hinges from the backside of the door panels, using a screwdriver.
- 3). Measure off two inches at the top and bottom of each door with a ruler. Use the ruler to make a straight line between each of these points. This will be your guide for positioning the hinges on the door panels.
- 4). Mark the holes for the mounting screws, using one of the door hinges as a template. Set the hinge on the door with its top edge on your guide line. Use a pencil to mark the screw holes, then repeat this process with the hinge aligned against the bottom line.
- 5). Drill pilot holes for the mounting screws in each of your marked locations. Place the hinges on each door panel and tighten the screws. Erase your guidelines when you are finished.
- 6). Hold the doors up to the cabinet opening, with help from your assistant, as you mark the screw holes for the hinge on the edge of the cabinet. Lower the doors, then drill the pilot holes according to your pencil marks.
- 7). Hold the door panels up again, again with your assistant's help, while you insert the mounting screws into the pilot holes to secure the hinges. Test the fit of the hinges by opening and shutting the doors. Make sure the doors hang straight and do not run into each other in the middle of the cabinet when closed.
