FrontPoint Security Services is a security system provider based in Virginia that provides services through the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. FrontPoint prides itself on offering cellular equipment, believing wired systems to be unreliable and easily compromised. General Electric supplies FrontPoint with all of its security equipment, which comes with a two-year warranty. FrontPoint offers three different tiers to its system and monitoring service plans.
The company also offers home automation options.
History:
FrontPoint was founded in 2007. Chief Operating Officer Peter M. Rogers had previously been a managing director for a security consulting firm. Rogers also previously worked in business development for Tyco, which had briefly purchased FrontPoint competitor ADT. FrontPoint put its focus into cellular technology, making all their systems wireless in the process. They are the only nationwide security service provider that strictly offer wireless systems. Expansion came quickly, with the company currently employing over 300 people and offering services across the entire United States. FrontPoint claims that there are virtually no unserviceable areas in the country. They have since expanded into Canada and Puerto Rico as well.
Services:
FrontPoint systems are designed to not only protect against burglary, but against fire, flooding and carbon monoxide exposure as well. The company offers text and email alerts, so you know immediately if your system activates while you’re not home.
Frontpoint offers some limited home automation features as well, including automated security lighting, locks and climate control. One advantage that FrontPoint advertises is that you take your security equipment with you when you move to a new location, which is more challenging or impossible with traditional wired systems. The wireless element of FrontPoint’s systems also allow you to do your own installation with fewer hassles. Free shipping is also offered on all equipment.
Frontpoint offers three main tiers to its service. Basic protection runs about $35 per month and includes intrusion protection, fire sensors, life safety, environmental alarms and 24-hour monitoring. Interactive protection is the next tier, running about $43 per month. It takes the basic protections and adds remote access and control. Lighting control is also a part of the Interactive tier.
The final tier is entitled “Ultimate” and it costs approximately $50 per month. It adds wireless surveillance and advanced automation controls to the equipment from the lower tiers.
Equipment:
FrontPoint’s equipment all come with cellular modules that enable them to work wirelessly even in places with poor cell reception. Panels and sensors are designed to send out an alarm signal in the event of damage or tampering. FrontPoint’s available equipment includes:
- Control panels
- Door and window sensors
- Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
- Wireless video cameras
- Smartphone-controlled lighting
- Panic pendants
- Keychain remotes
- Mobile apps for Smartphone control
- Water and flood detection sensors
FrontPoint Security hasn’t been in business as long as competitors such as ADT, but they have focused on technological innovation and customer service to make up for their relative lack of experience as a brand. Simplicity is also a cornerstone, with the company advertising that most of their equipment can be installed without professional assistance in less than 30 minutes. The company has been favorably reviewed by multiple security outlets, and their pricing is competitive. They do not offer the energy saving features and solar options that competitors like Vivint do, but they do have a healthy amount of home automation options outside of their core security systems. They also provide free quotes both online and over the phone when you are shopping around for security systems and companies. FrontPoint Security is a viable option in the home security market, and you should not rule it out until you have compared it to the other choices available in your area.
