Smoking is a real problem these days, but you definitely already know this. What is very surprising is the simple fact that little to no persons truly understands the implications of smoking on a daily basis and how bad this habit can actually be. Smoking is perhaps one of the worst enemies of this century, alongside stress and alcohol abuse. In order to successfully quit smoking, its causes should be discovered first. Here are some of the potential causes which make people smoke.
1. Having too much free time and nothing to do with your hands. Believe it or not, this is actually true. If you are a very busy person, you are less likely to start smoking or continue this habit on a long period of time. Why? Simply because you don't have time for smoking! This bad habit requires one free hand all the times, an open space where you can do it and at least a couple of minutes for every cigarette smoked. If you or someone you know smokes a lot, it is probably because it has too much free time at his disposal. Get busy and you might quit smoking.
2. Some people smoke because their friends smoke. It is very common and easy to integrate different behavioral traits in your own daily routine, especially when you are spending a lot of time with your friends, family members, coworkers, etc. Basically, if they smoke, you might start smoking too. If your friends go out in club and smoke, you probably would look like a fool if you don't. Such mechanisms are true and unfortunately, many people start smoking or continue smoking in order to not be seen as freaks or be left out from their circle of friends.
3. Having a bad lifestyle can lead to poor choices when it comes to health. If you eat healthy, you care for your diet, you work out every single day and you also have a lot of other healthy habits, it is very likely that you might not smoke at all. Why? Simply because you are very aware of your health and behavior and you want the best in your life. On the other hand, if you are usually a careless person, you don't practice any sports, you mostly eat junk foods, etc, you are also very likely to smoke a lot because you don't care for your health. This is a sure path to destruction and diseases.
4. You are constantly under stress. For some, cigarettes might be a way to relieve stress and even emotional pain. This is a big lie. Stress is relieved through relaxation and a superior state of mind, not by inhaling more than 4000 toxic substances several times a day. Don't kid yourself, smoking only worsens your problems, it doesn't solve them.
5. You have good financial means. Yes, this can also be a cause for smoking on a regular basis and it might also lead to other dangerous habits like drinking too much alcohol or taking drugs. If you have kids, it is a brilliant idea to offer them a limited budget and advice them to spend it wisely.
