How to Remove the Ignition From an '84 Silverado

    • 1). Unbolt the steering column from the underside of the dashboard using a 1/2-inch ratchet and socket. Lower it away from the dashboard and support it on your knees while you work.

    • 2). Check that the ignition is in the "lock" position and if it isn't, move it to that place using the key or a flathead screwdriver if necessary.

    • 3). Unscrew the two Phillips-head screws next to the ignition switch using the Phillips-head screwdriver and then remove the switch from the column. Disconnect any linkage connected to the ignition switch as you pull it out of the column.
