- 1). Place your garden in an area that gets lots of light and stays fairly warm---preferably a south-facing window or sun porch.
- 2). Place your rockwool bricks or growing mat into the tray. Soak the rockwool for a few hours or even overnight. This allows the rockwool to retain vital water and nutrients for the plant cuttings or seeds, and it won't need water right away. Wait one day.
- 3). Place a couple of seeds or one cutting into the hole in each brick or mat. You should have sprouts for seeds or roots for cuttings in a week or so. Don't water the rockwool again. Overwatering can cause mold and other problems.
- 4). Water and feed your plants after three or four days. According to rockwool manufacturer Grodan, rockwool is made from super-heated volcanic rock---a nutrient-rich growing medium. While rockwool is loaded with vitamins plants need, it is up to the gardener to continue to provide the plants with food. Any liquid plant food will help.
- 5). Mix the plant food into the watering can as you prepare to water your garden. Make sure that you add the food to the water according to the instructions on the food container. Adding too much food to the water could kill your plants
