Brett Favre has made a big impact on the NFL during his playing days.
He played football in college at the University of Southern Mississippi and though he was very good, he was not the most sought after quarterback coming into the NFL.
He spent the first year of his career as a backup for the Atlanta Falcons, but following a trade that brought him to the Green Bay Packers, he was put into a position to become one of the best quarterbacks of his era, if not all time.
There are a lot of things that go into being a great quarterback, but here are five things that you may not know about Brett Favre.
- Brett Favre was a star on his high school football team which was coached by his father.
He saw playing time not only at quarterback, but also on the offensive and defensive line, at strong safety, kicker, and punter.
- When he began his college career at the University of Southern Mississippi he was listed as the seventh string quarterback.
He would eventually work his way up to starter during his freshman year and would never look back.
- The degree that Favre earned in college is a teaching degree with an emphasis in special education.
- The first pass Brett Favre attempted as a professional was intercepted and returned for a touchdown.
- Through the 2009 NFL season, Brett Favre had started 212 consecutive football games.
Amazingly, Favre broke the record for consecutive starts when he started his 117th game, but he just kept going.
At the time, the only other quarterback to even pass the 100 consecutive start mark is Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts.
