Feline Lymphadenitis

    Identification

    • Feline lymphadenitis is a condition in which the lymph nodes become swollen as the result of an infection.

    Location

    • The swelling usually occurs in the lymph nodes closest to the source of the infection. For example, if a cat has an infection of the gums, the lymph nodes of the neck may become enlarged.

    Symptoms

    • In addition to enlarged lymph nodes, fever is a common symptom as a result of the infection. Symptoms will vary based on the location of the swollen lymph nodes and the type of infection.

    Treatment

    • Lymphadenitis is treated by eliminating the infection that is causing it. Antibiotics or antifungal treatments are usually prescribed.

    Prognosis

    • If the infection is easily treatable, the outlook for lymphadenitis is very good. The enlarged lymph nodes usually return to their normal size once the infection goes away.
