How to Reserve a Campsite in Yosemite Valley

    Getting Your Yosemite Reservation

    • 1). Check the chart on Yosemite's camping page at nps.gov to find out the date you can get your reservation. You'll be able to make your reservation five months in advance, when a one-month block of dates opens up. For example, if you plan to camp between June 15 and July 15, you can make your reservation on February 15 of that year.

    • 2). Review the park and campground maps on the National Park Service website. Determine ahead of time which campground you want to stay in and which loop your prefer. Have second, third and fourth choices in mind in case your first choice is not available. Each site holds up to six people and up to two vehicles. If you have an RV or trailer, confirm which sites can handle your rig's size.

    • 3). Call the reservation phone line or log on to the Internet reservation site promptly at 7 a.m. PT on your date. To increase your chances of getting through, you may want to use both the phone and Internet. The reservation phone number is (877) 444-6777, and the website is recreation.gov. You may need to hit redial on your phone numerous times before you get through, and the website might be overloaded. It is not uncommon for it to take 45 minutes or more before you connect. By 9:30 am, it's likely all 379 Valley sites will be reserved for the time period.

    • 4). Secure your reservation by providing the dates of your trip, specifics regarding your equipment (tent or camper), the number of people in your party, the number of vehicles in your party and your credit card information. You will be billed for the entire stay immediately. You can reserve up to two sites with each call or Internet transaction. If you need more than two sites, you'll have to start the process over.

    • 5). Write down your confirmation number and/or request an email confirmation to be sent to you.
