Growing Old Gracefully - What the Heck is That?

Are you getting it too? I seem to be hearing more and more of this "growing old gracefully" thing.
If it's not that, then it's growing old naturally.
What's this all about anyway? I did some research ('cause that's what I do) and found that there are as many definitions and meanings associated with these terms as there are people growing old.
From genetics to luck, diet to exercise, city to country living, vitamins to environment; the experts are all out there pummeling their laptops (ouch!) proclaiming they have the answer.
Meanwhile, the everyday folks are out at Fort McDonald's fighting the Battle of the Bulge and hoping their tickers don't start tocking.
They're out there buying up motorized easy chairs to ease the burden of trekkin' out to the entertainment room to soak up a little reality on HDTV.
Is this growing old gracefully? What? You say I'm not bein' fair? Ohhh, you're talking about the grey joggers tearing up and down the park paths and their close spandex relatives hunkering over the bicycle pedals yelling "on the right" as they wheeze by.
Is this growing old gracefully? Ahhh, you were talking about the Heart Smart group hanging out at the organic restaurants and their close buddies, the no sugar, no glutton, no cholesterol, no fat, no calories, no wheat, no lactose, no nutrients left (oops, did I just say that?) group.
Maybe this is growing old gracefully.
I guess in the end, growing old gracefully is personal-it is whatever it is for you.
If growing old gracefully is your thing, then I truly wish you all the best.
I came across a sorta neat article on Squidoo about some guy coming to grips with his 84 year old mom (get this .
.
.
she's got her own blog) and I thought a lot of what he had to say about choices made sense-gave me a little food for thought anyway.
But I gotta tell ya, when it comes to getting old, I'm just not into all this growing old gracefully stuff.
I say fight it.
Fight it, fight it, fight it.
No holds barred; no rules.
When death comes to collect, tell him "the check's in the mail.
