1967 Mustang Vehicle Specifications

    • The year 1967 was important for Ford's Mustang. Facing increasing pressure from other automobile manufacturers, Ford made the 1967 Mustang available with a big-block engine for the first time. To accommodate the larger physical size of the engine, the car was widened by 2.7 inches. Aside from the size difference, the interior was redesigned, and the car was given a more aggressive look than its predecessors. Whether shopping for a '67 Mustang or restoring one, it is important to at least have some knowledge about this car's factory specifications.

    Engine

    • A 200-cubic inch, six-cylinder engine was standard equipment for the Mustang in 1967. This engine produced 120 horsepower and 190 foot-pounds of torque. The 289-cubic inch engine was available in three different configurations. With a two-barrel carburetor, the 289 produced 200 horsepower and 282 foot-pounds of torque. With a four-barrel carburetor, the 289 produced 225 horsepower and 305 foot-pounds of torque. A special high-performance 289 produced 271 horsepower and 312 foot-pounds of torque. The 390 big-block engine produced 320 horsepower and 427 foot-pounds of torque.

    Transmission

    • Three transmissions were available with the 1967 Mustang. A three-speed manual transmission was standard equipment if the Mustang was equipped with the 200 or the regular production 289. The three-speed manual transmission was not available with the high-performance 289 or with the 390. The 390 engine and all versions of the 289 were available with either a four-speed transmission or with a three-speed automatic transmission. The 200 engine was only available with the three-speed manual transmission or with the automatic transmission.

    Rear Axle Ratios

    • Rear axle ratio depended on the type of engine and transmission the car was equipped with. If equipped with the 200-cubic inch engine and a three-speed manual transmission, the ratio was 3.20:1. If the 200 was equipped with the automatic transmission, the standard ratio was 2.83:1. An optional ratio of 3.20:1 was available. If equipped with the 289 two-barrel carburetor engine, the standard ratio was 2.80:1 regardless of the type of transmission. An optional ratio of 3.00:1 was available. If equipped with the 289 four-barrel carburetor, the ratio was 3.00:1. There was no optional ratio with this engine selection. The high-performance version of the 289 was equipped with a ratio of 3.50:1 as standard equipment. An optional ratio of 3.89:1 was available. A standard ratio of 3.00:1 was used for the 390 engine. An optional ratio of 3.25:1 was available.

    Brakes

    • If the Mustang was equipped with the 200-cubic inch engine, the brake drum diameter was 9 inches. All cars equipped with any of the 289 engines or with the 390 engine were equipped with 10-inch brake drums. Front disk brakes were optional equipment. All brakes lines were riveted and featured molded asbestos lining material.
