How to Prepare for a Homebirth

    • 1). Contact your midwife or homebirth doctor to see if he has a list of suggested supplies to prepare for your homebirth. Common supplies suggested include towels, a large bowl to receive the placenta, a peri-bottle, cord clamps, blue waterproof pads, sanitary pads, oil and blankets for baby.

    • 2). Prepare several meals in advance and place in the freezer.

    • 3). Enlist the help of a support person to assist you during the labor.

    • 4). Arrange for childcare or a support person to supervise your other children (if any) during the homebirth process.

    • 5). Decide if and how to record the birth, and then assign someone to be responsible for taking pictures and/or recording the birth.

    • 6). Keep a crockpot on hand. When labor begins, fill the crockpot with washcloths and water. A warm washcloth can soften your perineum during pushing.
