You really love triathlon and want to do better.
You have purchased the right equipment, been professionally fit on your bike, found a place to swim that allows you to do so when you can and should, and you have hired a coach.
You have done everything that you need to do to have a great season, right? Maybe not...
Hiring a coach or purchasing a training plan is a huge step in the right direction.
The second step is performing the workouts that have been prescribed for you, PROPERLY.
It is amazing to witness the number of athletes executing their training sessions improperly.
When an athlete doesn't do their workout as prescribed they are setting themselves up for failure.
Every workout has a purpose and is a keystone for the next day's session.
When a workout isn't performed properly, you don't reap the rewards that your coach had in mind.
What causes this to happen? The biggest reason behind improper execution is an athlete assuming that they know what is being asked of them.
One simple rule is that when you have even a hint of doubt, ASK.
Your coach is there to help you and is glad to provide the proper answers to you.
There is nothing worse than performing a workout for weeks and finding out that you have been doing it wrong all along.
Chances are that when you make the needed correction you will be amazed at how much better you feel in that workout and in the subsequent days training.
Remember: if you are not absolutely certain that you understand what is being asked of you - ask your coach! When you open up the lines of communication and execute your training as scheduled, you will find that you will perform better than ever.
