The British Canoe Union, which is known as the BCU, is United Kingdom's governing body for the sports of canoeing and kayaking. As paddlesports have a long and regal history in the UK, this is one of the most revered paddling organizations in the World. The BCU is even recognized and respected in the U.S. right alongside the American Canoe Association and even has a branch known as the British Canoe Union North America, or the BCUNA.

Background and History of the BCU

The British Canoe Union, or the BCU, started out in 1936 as a group setup to send a team to participate in the Berlin Olympics. It has since become the leading paddling authority in the United Kingdom. As such, the BCU is the parent organization over Canoe England, Canoe Scotland, Canoe Association of Northern Ireland and the Welsh Canoeing Association. It also has strong ties and is active in North America.
