Many worry that the influences the media bombards young people which is unhealthy and effecting them adversely. Violence is a very common facet of today's media and continues to increase in frequency. Many songs and albums are based around violent topics and expose young adults to violent material that is even more vulgar and disturbing than violence that is found in other media types. • Video games have been a source of violence since inception. The opposition for video game violence is very polarized with a large number of supporters and research on both sides of the issue. Video games are often blamed for affecting teens in their encouragement and practice of violence. Others claim that violence in video games is harmless "play" and affects teens at a very minimal amount.

• Television and movies increase in violence each year and violent situations and scenarios are found in even the most lighthearted comedy. Violence is an integral part of America comedy and the average viewer will see more 200,000 acts of violence by the age of 18, according to studies performed by the American Academy of Pediatrics. When violence is such a part of daily life it is not surprising that many people worry that television affects the actions of teens.
  
  

Occurrences

• The sheer number of occurrences of violence, lighthearted and obscene, have increased more than 378 percent in less than a decade, according to studies performed in Canada by professors Guy Paquette and Jacques de Guise. Many groups, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, worry that the high occurrences of violence desensitizes viewers to violence and younger viewers are affected to a much higher degree due to their impressionability.
