Most individuals realize that little is meaningfully accomplished when one attempts to lead in a vacuum, by attempting to unilaterally determine all aspects and programs/ ideas that a group pursues.
Truly great leaders seek to unite and unify their organization and its constituents, by seeking common ground that makes various factions feel they are being considered in a meaningful manner.
This is a form of superior negotiating, because it seeks to address needs in the best manner possible and applicable, by pursuing a relevant form of win - win mindset and approach.
However, the only way to do this on a consistent basis, and be assured that it aligns with needs, priorities and the hopes of concerned parties, is to identify and clearly understand what is actually desirable and/ or needed.
What better way to do so than to use and follow the concept of an RFP (Request for Proposal), because unless one clearly identifies and asks for what's needed, how can anything meaningful or important be achieved? 1.
Be prepared and know what each faction/ side needs or wants.
True leaders always do their homework and pursue/ recognize quality objectives.
2.
Create a plan, with a priority - based approach.
What better way to pursue the best course of action might there be than to fully understand what is needed, wanted, and why? Once this is done, one is best positioned for the everyday negotiating skills that enhance quality leadership.
3.
Doing your homework involves far more than merely knowing what you want to achieve or pursue.
Rather, it is often even more important and relevant to fully understand and appreciate where the other side(s) might be coming from, and why.
4.
Clearly articulate your needs and positions, in an effective, transparent manner, and with absolute integrity.
You must realize that little can be accomplished unless and until you become capable of making others buy in to you personally, because no one will follow anyone they don't believe in and have faith in.
Prioritize transparency! 5.
Use win - win mindset and approach, so you can pursue the best way to serve the needs of all involved.
Doing this means giving things a full review in terms of the common grounds that they will serve, and how various factions might benefit.
6.
Absolute integrity must be far more than mere rhetoric or some sort of exercise, but rather must be the guiding principle and approach.
Doing this will invariably permit you to better intake what is most meaningful to those that you strive to serve.
7.
Get everything you seek and agree to (in detail) in writing.
Even if it is merely jotted down and initialed, it creates a priority on working together towards common goals and objectives.
Unfortunately, many in positions of leadership begin this pursuit, but fail to meaningfully do anything about it! If you wish to lead, do so effectively.
Enhance your effectiveness by fully understanding, pursuing and articulating what you wish to address, why, how, and when!
