My daughter is a very artistic person and a very good scrapper.
Whatever she makes is beautiful and always done to a very high standard.
But like most of kids she's always desperate for money.
I have been telling her for years to turn her artistic skills into something more.
Finally one day while she was complaining about not having any money, I sat her down in front of my computer and showed her how I was able to start a small business in scrapbooking.
As we went through the setting up, the costs, what part of the market to specialize in, you could see in mind whirling into action.
You could see she understood the basic concepts very easily and the potential earning possibilities of a small business built around scrapbooking could be for her.
It really didn't take much convincing in the end.
She was so keen we started there and then.
But where do you start.
Because I had been there before I gave her a copy of a scrapbooking small business eBook I had used when I started and we went through it over a few days.
Things we looked at included what she was going to market.
In her case Wedding Scrapbooks, Coffee Table Scrapbooks, greeting cards and using scrapbooks as display books for things like Cake Decorating, other scrapbooking products etc.
My daughter already had many of her previous scrapbooking projects photographed digitally on her computer so setting up a website was easy.
We then started on developing marketing methods including article writing, small YouTube videos using examples of how to do certain things and press releases.
My daughter is a Facebook junky so she sent out a link to her site to all her friends and they sent it to all their friends and so on and so on.
In a matter of weeks my daughter had commissions for fifty wedding albums, diaries etc at agreed prices and guess what? She's not bothering me for money anymore, which can't be a bad thing.
