Anxiety and Alcohol

This may seem against common knowledge, but it is true that alcohol can cause anxiety.
This does not happen during the party, but it comes with a bang after the party.
How does this happen? Excess alcohol does not just give a tipsy mood to the drinker; it also damages the liver and the brain.
Since both these organs control anxiety and mood levels, this goes to show that if they are affected then mood and anxiety are also affected.
Listed below are the processes wherein alcohol affects these organs.
How does a compromised liver affect anxiety? The liver produces neurotransmitters.
These neurotransmitters control our mood, keeping us calm.
If the liver is damaged, production of neurotransmitters would lessen, thereby increasing anxiety.
How does alcohol affect the brain? Alcohol destroys the chemical structures of neurotransmitters.
Alcohol also flushes out vitamins and minerals which are needed for the production of neurotransmitters.
And now that we have established alcohol as a contributor to anxiety attacks, how then do we treat anxiety? First, you must control your drinking habits.
If you do, however, decide to drink, take Vitamin C, Vitamin B complex, and magnesium supplements.
They would replace the substances excreted due to alcohol.
Taking them would increase your needed neurotransmitters.
Regular exercise and balanced diet that would include vegetables and fruits can do wonders for your brain and liver.
These will protect them from the effects of alcohol.
Of course, cutting down drinking is the best option for reducing anxiety.
Nevertheless, a dose of vitamins and other supplements could help those who still drink.
