- 1). Purchase a new crossbow string at an archery center. Crossbow strings are sized specifically for each crossbow and should be purchased accordingly.
- 2). Stand on a soft surface such as a grassy area. Hold the crossbow with one hand. Place the end of the crossbow that has a stirrup on the ground in front of one foot. Slide that foot into the stirrup at the end of the crossbow.
- 3). Bend down and grasp the end of one limb of the bow. Bend the limb toward the stock until the tension on the existing crossbow string loosens. Remove and discard the existing crossbow string.
- 4). Continue to hold the crossbow with one hand and have one foot in the crossbow stirrup. Hold the end of the new crossbow string in the other hand. Slide one loop of the crossbow string onto the notch at the end of a limb.
- 5). Bend down and grasp the end of the unstrung limb. Hold the remaining end of the crossbow string with the other hand. Bend the limb toward the stock. Slide the remaining end of the bowstring over the end of the limb when it is adequately flexed.
