- 1). Launch Photoshop. Scroll to "File" and then "New" to create a new file. A window will appear. Change the "Width" to 500 pixels and "Height" to 600 pixels and click "OK." Double click the background layer to unlock the layer under the "Layer" tab to the right of your screen. A window will appear. Name the layer "Background."
- 2). Scroll to the bottom of the "Toolbar" on the left side of your screen to place your cursor on the colors palette. This will allow you to set up the colors for the background. Double click the top box to set "Foreground" color. Change color to whatever color you desire and click "OK." Double click the box underneath the top box to set the "Background" color and choose a color and click "OK."
- 3). Click "G" on your keyboard or scroll to the "Toolbar" to choose a tool. This will allow you to select the "Gradient Tool." The gradient panel will appear at the top of your screen under the "Menu Bar." Click the fifth box away from the "Mode" drop-down box to set the gradient to "Linear Gradient." Then use your cursor to drag the pattern from the top going straight down to the bottom of your page. You will see your two-tone pattern on your page.
- 4). Create a new layer either by scrolling to "Layer" at the top of your screen and scroll to "New" and then "Layer" or click the sixth icon at the bottom of the "Layers" tab to the right of your screen. A new layer will appear above the "Background" layer. Name the new layer "Balloon." Click the "Balloon" layer to activate and select its layer.
- 5). Click "U" on your keyboard to select the "Line Tool" on your Toolbar to the left of your screen. The "Line Tool" should be highlighted. Then scroll to its icon and hold down your mouse to open a window to select the "Ellipse Tool."
- 6). Scroll to the top of the screen to the "Line Tool" panel to select the second box "Paths." Drag your mouse vertically from top to bottom to give the shape enough roundness. This is your balloon outline.
- 7). Scroll to "Edit," "Transform Path" and then select "Distort" to create a knot effect at the bottom of the balloon. A outline box will appear around the shape. Move the right bottom edge of the box over the left bottom edge to create a loop. Then drag the bottom right anchor to straighten up the shape. Reduce the size of the bottom loop by pushing up the right and left anchors upward to enlarge the upper loop to create your balloon and knot shape at the bottom.
- 8). Make sure your "Balloon" layer is still highlighted and scroll to the "Toolbar" to select the "Magic Wand Tool" or click "W" on your keyboard. Use the "Magic Wand Tool" to select the balloon shape. Set your colors for your balloons. Set your "Background" color to create your main color from your Toolbar palette just like you did for the "Background" layer. A window will appear.
- 9). Set your desired color for the balloon. Do the same for the "Foreground" color but choose a lighter version of the color that you chose for the "Background" color to give the balloon a stretched-out effect. Select the "Gradient tool" and scroll to its panel at the top of the screen. Choose the second box to select the "Radial Gradient" effect. Drag your "Gradient Tool" from the inside of the balloon at the upper left and then diagonal to the right bottom of the shape. Your balloon is now colored.

Add a light effect behind the balloon. Create a new layer. Name the layer "Light Effect." The new layer will be above the "Balloon" layer. Drag the "Light Effect" layer below the balloon. The balloon should appear bolder and lighter. Save your file.
