Medical Research has shown how zinc plays an important role in maintaining your prostate health.
Researchers at Johns Hopkins University and Agricultural Research Service found that cancerous prostate tissue contains significantly lower levels of zinc than healthy organ tissue.
This is an important discovery since zinc is found in every organ, tissue and cell in the human body, and in males the levels of zinc are the highest in the tissue of the prostate more than any other tissue except bone.
Researchers are particularly interested in this finding since prostate cancer is the second leading cause of death for men between the ages of 50 and 65.
As men age, their lifestyles and diets tend to change as well.
Many men over the age of 50 tend to get less exercise than younger men.
Also, older men seem to eat fewer fruits and vegetables on a regular basis, which are natural sources of zinc.
Older men are likely to have diets laden with fat, cholesterol and sugar which is indicative of higher instances of type-2 diabetes and obesity among older men.
These findings support researchers claims that men who fail to maintain sufficient levels of zinc in their diets as they age tend have higher instances of enlarged prostate (BPH); prostatitis, which is an inflammation of the prostate tissue; and have higher levels of prostate cancer.
Doctors don't yet know what causes prostate cancer in men, as men who maintain a healthy lifestyle and good diet may still develop prostate cancer, but the chances of developing prostate cancer are greater in men with lower levels of zinc in their bodies.
The two best ways for men fifty and older to ensure they are receiving the proper daily dosage of zinc for optimum prostate health, function and reduce the chances of developing prostate cancer are: healthy diet and taking a prostate health supplement that contains zinc.
A zinc-rich diet includes plenty of dark green leafy fruits and vegetables, fish and nuts.
In addition to a prostate-healthy diet, men should take a daily prostate health supplement to ensure optimum function.
