About a Maltipoo Dog

    Appearance

    • Maltipoos combine the characteristics of both miniature poodles and Maltese. They tend to have short faces, and their hair is long and soft and ranges from wavy to curly. Multipoos come in a variety of colors, from white to charcoal; however, the lighter colors, such as white, are the most common.

    Size

    • Maltipoos are a fairly small dog breed. At their shoulders, most dogs of this breed stand between 8 inches and 1 foot, 2 inches. The weight of a maltipoo can range between 5 and 20 pounds. Different specialized varieties of maltipoo also exist that can have different size ranges. For example, a teacup maltipoo will generally be under 4 pounds when fully grown whereas a toy multipoo is typically between 4 and 6 pounds when fully grown.

    Health and Lifespan

    • Maltipoos have a medium to long-range lifespan, comparable to either a poodle or Maltese. Unlike their parent breeds, maltipoos are rarely afflicted with diseases such as White Shaker Dog Syndrome and Luxating Patella. Generally, maltipoo owners can expect their dogs to live between 10 and 13 years.

    Temperament

    • Maltipoos are generally very friendly and sociable animals. Pet owners enjoy these small dogs for their companionship. Maltipoos are also very energetic and enjoy playing and going for walks or running around the house. It is generally recommended that maltipoos be kept as indoor dogs since they enjoy spending time with people and can become anxious if they are forced to spend too much time alone.

    Shedding

    • Both Maltese and poodles are considered to be non-shedding dog breeds. Similarly, the maltipoo does not shed much and is therefore considered to be a good dog for people who suffer from mild dog allergies. However, it is important to keep in mind that all dogs produce allergy-causing dander and saliva, meaning no breed will allow owners to avoid allergies entirely.
