- To make a balloon arch for a sports event, it is best to use latex balloons filled with helium. This way the arch doesn't need much support when it is put together.
- Four balloons are attached at a time. Tie strings around the ends of each balloon and tie them close together so that their ends are facing each other. The process is continued in groups of four. After the sets of four are put together, they can be connected into a long string of fours. The dangling strings from one group are tied to the center of the next and so on until they are all connected.
- Once you have a long rope of balloons, they need to be bent into an arched position and tied down at the location at which they are to be used. Eye bolts staked into the ground can be used with string to tie the arch in place. You can get the eye bolts at any hardware store. They are long metal bolts with a eye or ring on the end and are hammered into the ground. Strings are then tied from the ends of the balloon rope to the eye of the bolt. If wind is a factor, you can have stakes made of wood or metal in addition to the eye bolts. The balloons are tied to the eye bolts as before to keep them from flying away, but the stakes are also put into the ground next to the sides of the arch so that string can be tied around the stakes and arch higher off the ground to keep it from leaning and give it more stability.
