- Sarcoptic mange in dogs is treated topically with selamectin or with off-label doses of liquid ivermectin and milbemycim oxime. If secondary bacterial or yeast infections are present, they are treated with oral or topical antibiotics (see Resources).
The typical treatment for notoedric mange is to clip the cat's fur, give her a cleansing bath and then apply a 2 to 3 percent lime sulfur solution over the cat's entire body. This must be repeated every 7 days for 6 to 8 weeks (see Resources).- Ferrets with sarcoptic mange are usually treated with ivermectin injections or a series of 2 percent lime sulfur dips. Secondary bacterial infections are treated with antibiotics (see Resources).
Rabbits with cheyletieall parasitovorax mange are usually treated with ivermectin injections or lime sulfur dips. Rabbits are very sensitive to insecticides, so following veterinary instructions are a must (see Resources).- In every case of this form of mange, the animal's environment must be cleaned and disinfected. All other animals in the household will also need to be treated.
