- 1). Open your Internet browser, and visit the Federal Student Aid Pin website. Click the "Apply Now" button, and click the "Next" buttton to continue. Enter your personal information into the appropriate field, and click the "Submit" button. A PIN will be automatically sent to the email address you entered in the PIN application.
- 2). Open your email client, and open the email message from Federal Student Aid. Write down your PIN, and keep it in a safe place. Open your Internet browser, and go to the official FAFSA website.
- 3). Click the "Fill Out Your FAFSA" hyperlink in the browser window to create a new FAFSA form. Select the school year you wish to apply for in the drop-down menu, and click the "Next" button to proceed.
- 4). Enter you or the student's first and last name, social security number and date of birth in the appropriate fields. Create a password for the account, and click "Next."
- 5). Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the FAFSA form, and carefully read over your application. Enter your PIN at the bottom of the application, and click the "Submit" button. The PIN is your electronic signature, and acknowledges that you understand and agree to the terms of the contract once it is entered and the form is submitted.
- 6). Write down your confirmation code. The confirmation code will be a combination of letters and numbers, and should be stored in case you need to use it as proof of submitting a FAFSA form. According to the official FAFSA site, you will receive a Student Aid Report within 3 weeks after submitting the application. This form acknowledges your application was received.
