Importance of Sleep for a Healthy Body

Our body manages and needs sleep similar to when it regulates the requirement for drinking, eating and breathing, according to the Division of Sleep Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
Through widespread research, these studies have constantly proven that sleep plays an essential role in encouraging long life, emotional well-being and physical health.
As most of us are aware of this, the body requires seven to eight hours of sleep per day.
One's immune system could grow weaker and the occurrence of heart disease, hypertension and depression increases with a sleep of less than seven hours.
The brain has to put in extra effort but less effectively to offset the countless effects of sleep deprivation if there is no proper rest.
As a result, the brain falls into stiff thought patterns that make it hard to create new problem-solving suggestions.
Moreover, decision-making skills are compromised, focus levels decrease and memory becomes weakened.
Worst still are the incidence of tremors, slurred speech and hallucinations.
On the contrary, having too much sleep may in fact be damaging too.
According to the latest research, those who sleep more than nine hours a day have shorter life span as compared to their eight-hour-sleep corresponding persons.
Over-sleeping has indeed been linked to a few medical problems like heart disease and diabetes.
The main lesson here is to have sufficient amount of nourishing sleep that will help you live a healthy and balanced life.
Our daily activities in life have their own cycles and sleeping is one of them.
Sleep cycle has different phases of sleep which are light sleep in the beginning, deep sleep in the middle (which the body repairs itself) and lastly rapid-eye movement sleep (REM) when the mind is repaired.
Whichever cycle the person is experiencing when he or she is asleep, getting restful sleep starts with maintaining a constant sleep schedule as well as having a bedroom atmosphere that supports relaxation.
In addition, mattresses play a vital role in the quality of sleep.
Be it a therapeutic mattresses or just a normal store brand mattresses, the bed should always feel supportive, fresh and comfortable.
Even though many medical experts and scholars have tried to stress the importance of sleep, they failed to reach to the public.
It is not broadly known, that good sleep is one of the most essential components of healthy living.
There is nothing better than waking up entirely and totally refreshed in the morning.
