- 1). Disconnect the negative battery cable, also called the ground cable, from the negative battery terminal post for safety. For extra precaution, set your emergency or parking brake.
- 2). Locate the ignition coil, which should be near the intake manifold. You may need to remove the cylinder head cover in order to expose the ignition coil.
- 3). Use a ratchet and socket set to remove the connectors that secure the Tacoma ignition coil in place.
- 4). Free the ignition coil by pulling up. You may need to twist slightly or grip the ignition coil boot and pull to release the seal formed between the ignition coil and the cylinder head.
- 5). Insert your new Tacoma ignition coil. Make sure you get a good connection, or your vehicle may not start.
- 6). Secure the ignition coil in place.
- 7). Reassemble any components that you removed to access the ignition coil.
