How to Convert Tire Size

    • 1). Find the service code description on your tire. The description starts right after the tire name, not the manufacturer name.

    • 2). Identify the first three numbers of the service description. These numbers will follow "P" if it is a passenger tire or "LT" if it is a light truck tire. They list the width of the tire in millimeters.

    • 3). Divide the number by 25.4 to convert to inches. For example, if the width of the tire is 220 millimeters, the width would be about 8.66 inches.
