- 1). Pour about three ounces of automotive soap solution into a plastic bucket. Fill the bucket halfway with water.
- 2). Wet one wheel at a time with the hose. Dip a soft-bristled brush into the soap mixture and thoroughly clean the wheel to remove the brake dust. Use the brush to get in between each spoke of the wheel if applicable. Some wheels do not have spokes. In this case, just use the brush to clean the entire wheel's surface. Using the brush and soap first will wash away the majority of brake dust on each wheel.
- 3). Spray wheel cleaner onto each wheel, one at a time. Wheel cleaner, available at any automotive store, is an acidic solution that attacks the brake dust. Some wheel cleaning solutions are highly acidic and can damage the wheel's finish, so use a quality cleaning solution, such as P21S or Sonax, which are German brands that are pH-balanced. Let the wheel cleaner sit on each wheel for 30 seconds.
- 4). Remove the wheel cleaner from each wheel using the brush. Spray off the wheel with the hose and wipe the wheel dry with a rag.
- 5). Pour a generous amount of liquid car wax onto a second rag. In a circular motion, wipe the wax onto each wheel, one at a time, and allow the wax to sit on the tire for about 30 seconds. The wax will protect the wheel from accumulating brake dust and make cleaning the wheel easier next time. Use a microfiber cloth to wipe off the dry wax particles. If the wax was applied correctly, the wheel should have a smooth texture.
