Emotional Freedom Techniques: Tapping Your Woes Away

Commonly abbreviated as EFT, Emotional Freedom techniques is a form of counseling using a combination of self acupuncture and modern psychology. Some of its practitioners refer to this unique therapy as simply tapping or emotional acupuncture, because it entails gentle tapping using the patient's own fingers on various parts of the body. Below are some of the questions frequently asked by people interested to try EFT as a simple relief to emotional stress.

Is tapping safe?

Practitioners believe that EFT is safe and, at the same time, simple. Instead of using needles, patients will only have to use their own fingers in tapping. There is no medication required to be taken and EFT is much less invasive compared with other forms of therapies. As a matter of fact, the procedure takes a very short time to complete and no one has ever been reported to be harmed in performing EFT.

What are tapping points?

You don't just tap any part of your body whenever you're stressed. According to its practitioners, tapping should be performed on several meridian points or natural comfort points in the body. Tapping points include, but are not limited to the hand, top of the head, eyebrow, side of the eye, under the eye, chin, collarbone, underarm, and others. Each of these meridians being tapped corresponds to emotions such as anger, trauma, emptiness, worry, embarrassment, guilt, confusion, insecurity, and others.

What do you get when you tap?

Aside from stimulating the meridians, EFT tapping offers benefits such as reduced anger, improved lifestyle, and even disease prevention. Some people benefit from EFT, as their poor habits are reduced or eliminated. Instead of taking medications to eliminate depression, tapping can do the trick of bringing you back to your old, joyful self, minus the side effects.

Can it help patients of all ages?

Because the procedure is easy and less invasive, patients of all ages can benefit from EFT. Children can also feel depressed and worried at times and parents may teach them how to perform tapping before they sleep at night. They should also be educated on EFT tapping points that correspond to specific emotions. In most cases, parents can start teaching their children by tapping on their meridians while listening to their everyday problems.

How long should you tap?

Finger tapping EFT practitioners recommend usually takes about a minute or two, just like brushing your teeth. Duration may vary from one person to another, depending on their needs and energy level in their body. Some people need to tap for an hour once or twice a day, while others may tap for a minute and repeat the tapping as many times as they want.
