For several reasons, Pete Hanson was ready to adopt a cat when he had moved to a new apartment in Portland, OR. Although he had always considered himself a "dog person," he had grown to love various roommates' cats in the past, and his apartment was really too small for a dog.

With that in mind, the first time he visited the local animal shelter, as so often is the case, it was love at first sight when he and Butterscotch met.

Pete followed his heart, and that is also his advice to others thinking of adopting a cat.
