- 1). Plug a jack lead into the input on your bass amplifier and connect the other end into the input of your fretless bass.
- 2). Set the sound you want by turning the tone, treble, middle and bass knobs on your amplifier. Also make adjustments using the tone and volume knobs on your bass. More treble will give you a brighter sound, while more bass will give you a deeper, murkier sound.
- 3). Put the guitar strap over your shoulder to stop the bass from falling.
- 4). Place your fingers on the fingerboard of the bass and press down on the strings where you want to play a note. Although the bass will not have frets, it will likely have markers or dots to indicate where the frets would ordinarily be.
- 5). Pluck the strings as you would a regular bass guitar. There are also other methods of hitting the strings such as using a bass pick, slapping and popping.
