How to Install a Pop-Up Gutter Drain

    • 1). Decide where the gutter drain is to be located in the yard. As you are planning the pipeline, think about where the water would naturally go if your home wasn't there. This should help you to avoid causing damage to your neighbor's homes or the surrounding ecosystem.

    • 2). Dig a trench that is 12 to 14 inches deep. Slant the trench slightly so that it drops approximately 1/8 inch for every foot of pipe that is run. Do not place the pipe directly against the foundation of your home.

    • 3). Place a 4-inch smooth plastic SDR-35 sewer pipe into the trench. Connect the pipe with fittings and PVC cement. If you must make a bend or turn in the piping, it should be done with 45-degree angle or smaller fittings.

    • 4). Install an inline pop-up valve at the end of the gutter drain. The valve should connect to the pipe with PVC pipe or a threaded pipe fitting.
