Recessed lighting is a type of lighting that has become increasingly popular in recent years.
It reduces the need for a traditional lamp fitting and is far less imposing on a room as almost all of the light is out of sight, normally in the ceiling cavity.
I've managed to keep it down to 3 steps.
Some may think this is over simplified but I always find these jobs are much simpler and quicker if a the amount of instructions is reduced as much as possible.
Step 1 - Cut an opening in the ceiling and wire the recessed light Before you begin this step it's vital that your turn off the power.
I cannot stress how important this is.
Locate the area that you wish to install the light and then double check you are not going to hit a joist.
Pencil the whole onto the ceiling and then use a drywall saw to cut the opening.
Once the whole has been cut, insert the electrical cable box and wire this into the electrics.
Remember to match all the wires to the same colour and then place the wires back in the box and put the box into the ceiling cavity.
Step 2 - Install the light housing Place the lighting house into the ceiling.
If the whole is tight enough the light should stay in place without any worries.
If not, place some tissue between the fitting and the ceiling and this should hold it in place.
Step 3 - Insert the bulb It really is that simple.
All you need to do now is install the light bulb itself and then turn the power back on.
Your done! Safety Advice - If you are an amateur DIY enthusiast and place to install recessed lighting without professional please ensure you follow any safety advice on the packaging of the lighting.
