How to Use a Screw Driver

    Driving a Screw

    • 1). Grab the screwdriver by the handle. Place the tip of the screwdriver into the indentation at the end of the screw while holding the screw between your thumb and forefinger. Hold the threaded end of the screw against the opening it is to be driven into.

    • 2). Twist the screwdriver clockwise while pushing the screw gently into the hole. Release the screw, and continue twisting until the top of the screw sits flush in the hole and cannot be twisted any further. With screws that do not fit flush into the hole, such as roundheads and ovalheads, twist until the screw stops.

    • 3). Pull the screwdriver from the indentation.

    Removing A Screw

    • 1). Grab the handle of the screwdriver. Insert the tip of the screwdriver into the indentation at the end of the screw.

    • 2). Twist the screwdriver counterclockwise until the screw is almost completely out of the hole, then remove the tip of the screwdriver from the indentation.

    • 3). Twist the screw counterclockwise by hand to remove it from the hole.
