Technicians work in a variety of fields. Most likely, they have job titles with the word "technician" in them. For example, there are engineer technicians, medical technicians, and automotive technicians. Duties vary depending on the field they're in. Technicians need to have a general understanding of the general theoretical principles, an understanding of theory, and a high level of technique. - Engineering technicians have to solve technical problems in research and development, manufacturing, sales, construction, inspection, and maintenance. Engineering technicians assist engineers and scientists, especially in the research and development department. Other engineering technicians may deal with quality control, conducting tests, or collecting data. Most engineering technicians have the same learning and work disciplines as regular engineers. They work 40 hours in laboratories, offices, construction sites, or industrial plants. Some technicians work with hazardous chemicals or toxic materials.
- Pharmacy technicians help pharmacists in preparing prescription medications, providing customer service, and performing administrative duties. Pharmacy technicians are typically responsible for receiving prescription requests, counting tablets, and labeling bottles. Those who work for retail or mail-order pharmacies have various duties, depending on the state where they work and its rules and regulations. Pharmacy technicians may also process prescription requests by phone, verify information about a prescription, and fill prescriptions. Technicians may also create and maintain patient profiles and insurance claim forms.
- Automotive technicians inspect, maintain, and repair automobiles. They also perform basic maintenance care such as changing the oil, rotating tires, and diagnosing vehicle problems. Some technicians specialize in certain areas of repair, such as transmission or automotive air-conditioning. An automotive technician's duties have evolved from simple mechanical repairs to technologically advanced work. They should be familiar with using both electronic diagnostic equipment and traditional hand tools. Some tools they use include power tools, wrenches, welding and flame cutting equipment, and computerized tools.
