Basement Waterproofing Company in PA Reveals the Hidden Dangers of Mold in Your Basement

Many people live with mold in their basements. Especially those in Pennsylvania, where poor drainage and heavy rains and snow can wreak havoc on your basement. In PA basement waterproofing is a must.

Many homeowners blow this off..."but waterproofing is expensive!"..."I can just do it myself."

What they don't realize is that getting water in the basement can not only hurt the structure of their home, damage the basement, and cause serious health issues to you and your family!

See, in Pennsylvania, you have the low lying areas of the city where poor drainage and plows pushing huge mounds of snow onto the sidewalks and into yards leads to basement flooding. Then, you have the areas in the mountains where water runoff can cause extreme basement flooding problems.

Having Basement Waterproofing Done Prevents Mold

The problem is, many people dont fully realize the health damaging impact of Mold and mold spores.

Molds reproduce by means of tiny spores; the spores are invisible to the naked eye and float through outdoor and indoor air.  Mold may begin growing indoors when mold spores land on surfaces that are wet.  There are many types of mold, and none of them will grow without water or moisture.

Molds produce allergens (substances that can cause allergic reactions), irritants, and in some cases, potentially toxic substances (mycotoxins).  Inhaling or touching mold or mold spores may cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.  Allergic responses include hay fever-type symptoms, such as sneezing, runny nose, red eyes, and skin rash (dermatitis). Allergic reactions to mold are common.  They can be immediate or delayed.  Molds can also cause asthma attacks in people with asthma who are allergic to mold. In addition, mold exposure can irritate the eyes, skin, nose, throat, and lungs of both mold-allergic and non-allergic people.

First, prevent wet areas by having your basement waterproofed. Second, if you do find mold, it needs to be attacked and have colonization stopped.

Mold spores will not grow if moisture is not present. And, if you clean the mold but moisture remains, it will come back.
