Ideas to Leave a Wedding Reception

    Dancing

    • Once you've performed your choreographed first dance, guests won't expect you to perform another routine at the end of the night. Choose a last dance song such as "I've Had the Time of My Life" from "Dirty Dancing." Work with a choreographer to develop a routine, or plan your own. Start the dance with all your guests on the floor. When the last verse starts, have a spotlight trained on just the two of you. Guests should move back to watch you. As the song ends, continue your moves across the floor and out the doors.

    Transportation

    • There's no point making a graceful exit if you're going to end up wandering through the parking lot looking for your car. Choose a transportation method that suits your reception and your interests. For instance, if you're throwing a formal reception hire a classic car from the 1950s to drive you away. If your reception is more casual, take off on motorcycles. If you have a large budget, arrange for a hot-air balloon or helicopter to take you away. Guests will never forget it, and you'll have an aerial look at the crowd.

    Showers

    • For a traditional exit, have guests leave your reception site before you and shower you as you leave. Give each guest a small bag of bird seed, a bottle of bubbles or rose petals to toss when you walk past. For a more unconventional exit, give guests paper airplanes or small poppers with streamers inside them. If you want an amusing end to a casual reception, give guests cans of silly string to spray at you.

    As a Group

    • Rather than making a formal exit, invite all your guests to go along with you to keep the celebration going. Charter some buses to take everyone to a relative's home or to a bar for an after party. When it's time to leave, make an announcement inviting everyone to come along with you, then dance outside together and board the buses. Guests can also choose to go off on their own if they want. If your reception venue requires you to be out at a certain time, this option ensures there won't be any stragglers hanging around.
