Architectural landmarks, research institutions, natural lakes, gardens and parks make Bangalore a top destination of tourists. In the last few decades, Bangalore has grown into a major centre of information technology. This has earned Bangalore the nickname of ‘Silicon Valley of India'.
Among the major attractions in the city are Bangalore Palace and Tipu Sultan Palace. Bangalore is known for some natural lakes like Ulsoor, Hasaraghhatta and Hebbal. Bangalore has several shrines. Hyderabad, situated in the Deccan Plateau, has a history of over 500 years. Located on the banks of Musi River, Hyderabad is known as the City of Pearls. The name ‘Hyderabad' had its origins in an affair between the ruler Mohammad Quli Qutb Shah and a local courtesan named Bhagmati. The ruler named the city Bhagyanagar after her. After she converted to Islam and took the name of "Hyder Mahal", he named the city Hyderabad.
Star attraction in Hyderabad is Charminar. This monument is synonymous with Hyderabad. The towers of Charminar rise to a height of 48.7 metre above ground. From the top of the minarets, one will get a panoramic view of Hyderabad city.
Among other major attractions are Mecca Masjid, Jama Masjid, Chowmahalla Palace, Falaknuma Palace, Golconda Fort, Qutb Shahi Tombs, Nizam's Museum, Purani Haveli, Salar Jung Museum and Toli Masjid.
Ramoji Film City, Archival Museum, B.M. Birla Planetarium and Science & Technological Museum, Indira Park, Nehru Zoological Park, NTR Gardens, St. Joseph's Cathedral, Lotus Pond, Ashta Lakshmi Temple, Birla Mandir, Osman Sagar Lake and Lotus Pond are other attractions in the city.
The distance from Bangalore to Hyderabad is around 600 km. Both the cities are well connected by air, rail and road. There are several daily flights from Bangalore to Hyderabad. The flight takes just over an hour to reach the destination. There are several direct trains running between the two cities. Some of the trains will go only up to Secunderabad, which is a few kilometre away from Hyderabad. The train journey takes about 13 hours.
Tourist buses are available for travel between the two cities. Hyderabad can be reached from Bangalore on two national highways NH 17 and NH 47. The distance to reach destination on NH 17 route is only 568 km and the other route is longer by 52 km. Bus fare ranges from Rs.750 to Rs.1500 depending on the type of vehicle one wishes to use.
