How to Get Your Florida Irrigation License

    • 1). Complete the application form. The application must be approved by your county's Development Services Team, Plumbing Board of Adjustment, and County Department Services. The license also must be filed with the county's contractor licensing team.

    • 2). Pay the application fee. The non-refundable application fess is $280. The fee includes a credit report and background check. Both the credit report and background check are pulled by the the county offices. Applications denied by the municipality can't be resubmitted for six months after the denials.

    • 3). Resubmit the application if your original application was rejected. A new credit report and background check will be run. Denied applications are kept on file for 18 months.

    • 4). Obtain your Irrigating License exam registration form. If the Florida Plumbing Board approves the application, you will be notified by your county's Contractor Licensing Team that your exam registration form is ready, or to visit the Thomas-Prometric website for testing times and locations.

    • 5). Visit the Thomson-Prometric website and select the date and location of the exam. You can register by mail by mailing the registration form and paying the exam fee of $160 by certified check, money order, cashier's check or supplying Visa or MasterCard information. Register by fax by sending the exam registration to 800-813-6670. Include your Visa or MasterCard information on the form.

    • 6). Take your exam. Arrive promptly as testing centers staff don't allow late arrivals. Bring your admission letter, valid photo identification, two number 2 pencils, and references approved for your exam. Calculators are also allowed.

    • 7). Your exam score is sent to you approximately 10 business days after your testing. If you receive a passing score---this may vary by county---mail it to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. You'll receive your license approximately 30 to 60 days after submitting.
