- 1). Remove the outer bolt and spacer for the stock seat belt with a socket.
- 2). Slide the harness eyebolt through the belt, large washer and flanged spacer that came with the harness. Install the harness eyebolt in the hole that the stock belt was bolted to.
- 3). Repeat these steps for the belt that is located on the inboard side of the seat for earlier models. The belt is bolted to the tunnel on these models.
- 4). On later Miatas, the stock belt bolts to the seat, so there is no hole to attach the racing harness bolt. Drill a ½-inch hole through the center tunnel for the eyebolt to go through. Make sure the hole is drilled far enough back and low enough that fore and aft seat travel is not restricted.
- 5). Jack up the car and place it securely on jack stands.
- 6). Install the eyebolt through the hole that was drilled in the tunnel, placing the reinforcement plate through the eyebolt where it comes out underneath the car. Seal the hole with silicone to prevent water from coming into the cabin.
- 7). Install the shoulder harnesses onto the roll bar or harness bar located behind the seats. On some roll bars and harness bars, there will be tabs welded on for the shoulder bars. Bolt the eyebolts and harnesses to the bar with the supplied hardware.
- 8). If there are no tabs installed for the harnesses, fasten the shoulder harnesses to the bar using the manufacturer's instructions. Test the harnesses to ensure that they are tight against your shoulder. If they are not tight, retighten them.
- 9). If you are installing a sub-belt (the belt that goes between your legs on a five-point harness) drill a hole in the floorboard and install the eyebolt through the hole with the supplied backing plate and nut. Seal the hole with silicone.
