Sole Cramps

    Causes of Sole Cramps

    • Cramps in the sole of the foot can be caused by lack of potassium, pinched nerves, dehydration and overuse or stress of the foot. Inadequate intake of magnesium or sodium may also play a part.

    Treatment of Sole Cramps

    • Simple techniques can help ease the pain of sole cramps. Try raising your foot to waist level, soaking the sore foot in warm water or wearing an elastic support sock to bed. Massage the sole of your foot where it's painful, or apply ice packs to it. Sleep with your feet propped up on a pillow.

    Prevention of Sole Cramps

    • If you stay hydrated, you should avoid sole cramps that result from dehydration. Avoiding high heels can help prevent cramps. Supplements that can help with sole cramps include calcium, magnesium, vitamin E, potassium and tonic water.
